It better be good.

I got to thinking about what I am doing and the importance of a good impression
in this age of the internet.

If you want to get any attention
and build an audience then you have to put in
whatever is needed for the project to be good.
I really mean GOOD.
People will judge your effort in the first few seconds and
you have millions of other distractions and competitors
fighting for the same time with your audience.

So what I do is create the flash and sparkle for videos I am working on.

Knowing that I only get a minute to get your attention I will give you just that.

One Minute.

This is my latest promo for the new project I am Directing.

What success is.

I was talking with a producer earlier today and wanted to share something with her that I had made and this video came up.
It is an old project promo that I made which was a huge educational experience for me.
Though I am not with the project anymore they are still doing what they do and a lot of work goes into it.

Success is not what one gets from it,
but who one becomes through it....

I would not be the editor I am today if it hadn't been for this project.

And here is what I made. With the help of a lot of very good people.

If you have any questions about how to do anything here or other questions about production or editing let me know. I would be glad to share here and your question might be selected for my next tutorial.

The evolution of a project, Being open to greater possibilities

You may have seen the post I made about "the Colter files" with the video I posted here.

I have to admit it was still a little rough.

The project now has evolved into something even more exciting.
We already have 18 interviews shot and many more people are getting involved.
What we realized was that this subject is bigger than we thought or could see at first.

We could have stuck with what we were doing and kept the project small
That is the danger with a topic of this sensitivity.
We decided not to get in the way of it and now the project has grown beyond us.

Project "wEVOLve"
is born and we are more excited than ever.
This weekend I am recruiting more editors to help and will be making new graphics
and a teaser for the project.
We will be launching a crowd funding campaign to increase awareness
and get some resources for post production and production
of storytelling short film to be included in the documentary.
Think of a parable but in video.

I believe that art is only as good as it communicates.
That is what drives me to do what I do and I love it.
So stay tuned and I will keep you updated here with the exciting story as it evolves.

wEVOLve,
  Inciting personal revolution.

Tips for cameras on the cheap

Here is a little training for you to get started with cameras and choices.

Frailty and the need for confront

The world is full of daily problems for each of us to deal with.
The greatest of which is that we ourselves often can't see how we ourselves can really make positive change.
The limitations we place on ourselves are really the only thing in life that truly limits us.
You yourself right where you are, have the power to change any circumstance.

What will stop you, is literally you.

Now I know you have probably seen the hype out there and the "motivational" Ra Ra.

But I want to give you some tools here that can actually use to a noticeable effect.
When you get overwhelmed there is a great way to get out of that fog of feeling hopeless. I would start with two things, a simple exercise really.
First: Take a walk. Walk around the block where you are and look around.
When I say look around I mean really look, look at the trees and bushes the rocks and cracks in the sidewalk.
Keep walking and looking until you actually feel better, and you will.
The second thing is :
Organize.
Put order into the things you have to do, by concentrating on just one thing at a time...
Write down the things you have to do, select the one that you can actually do right now all the way to completion and... Do it.
Once that first item is done.
You then find the very next thing you can do right now, and do that. Remember, The thing to focus on here is that you get something done.
Done means you can sign it off and put no attention on it.
If there are things you cannot do right now don't put them on the top of the list.
The next thing we need to understand is how to program something that will take several steps.
Let's take a look at how to do that.
First write down what the finished project or product will look like.
Then take a real look at what it will actually take to get it DONE.
Step by logical step, working from what needs to happen to get started and then what needs to happen right after that.
All the way to the complete end product.
(Which means something valuable that can be exchanged)
Anything can be accomplished with an understanding of what the steps are.
The thing that I find useful to remember, is that as long as I myself decide to be responsible for whatever I need to do I can get it done.
The only limitation on you is the willingness to confront.
Confront is looking at the thing, as it is where it is the way it is.
This is often harder than it may seem just looking at these words but you can do anything you actually apply yourself to if you just know "What it is."
 I hope that helps.
If you are interested in more of this leave a comment and stay tuned here.

Camera basics in short, how not to frame a shot

Hey all I got a little grumpy when someone griped at me about not being centered in a shot
 and this is the result.
There are many videos and pages on this subject so I will keep it brief.
Here are the basics on the rule of thirds.
Can you tell I am grumpy?
By the way, Magic bullet Denoiser made this key possible.
I didn't have it lit right at all.
 Lesson for that coming soon.
Now, go shoot better videos.

My first video for the project "The Colter Files"

Hey all, I have been working on this project for some time now and finally have the first finished promo to show all of you. I will be doing a series of tutorials on how I used low end equipment to create and edit this video and others.
More to come from "The Colter Files".

The value of multiple cameras

Hey all here is a quick video about the difference multiple cameras can make on a low budget shoot. especially in an interview format.

How to create a post on Wordpress.

Here is a video for all those who would like to start using Wordpress but aren't sure how.
 Very basic step by step.
I will do some more video tutorials like this to get a bit more in depth to making this an easy system to use. Believe me, there is a whole lot more.......

Lights for filming on the cheap.

I had some cheap lights fail on me recently but rather than throw them away I did something useful and salvaged something worthwhile and here is how you can do the same.
